Would you like to be known as a "Child of God"? I certainly do, which is why this website is called Blessed Peacemaker, to help me stay aligned with God's vision for my life.
In the heart of the Christian teachings, nestled within the Sermon on the Mount, lies one of the Beatitudes that has touched hearts across centuries: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God" (Matthew 5:9). This profound statement, delivered by Jesus Christ and recorded by St. Matthew, offers a blueprint for spiritual maturity and divine favor. Let's delve into what it truly means to be a Blessed Peacemaker.

Understanding "Blessed"
To be described as "Blessed" in this context goes beyond mere happiness or good fortune. It encompasses:
Spiritual Calm: A state where one is at peace with life's trials and tribulations, trusting in God's plan.
Joy and Favor: Experiencing joy not from worldly success but from being in God's good graces, enjoying His favor.
Comfort of Inner Peace: Being comforted by an inner tranquility that surpasses understanding, rooted in faith.
Spiritual Maturity: Anticipating God's presence with a mature spirit, recognizing His hand in all things.
Contentment: Feeling sheltered by God's promises, embracing a life of contentment rather than constant striving.
Nourished by Goodness: Finding joy in the goodness that God provides, which nourishes the soul.
Spiritual Security: Being inwardly peaceful, spiritually secure, and thus, worthy of respect from others.
Forgiveness and Grace: Experiencing the refreshing renewal that comes from God's grace and forgiveness.
Spiritual Prosperity: A state of being where one is spiritually prosperous, leading to a life admired by others for its depth and peace.
The Role of a Peacemaker
To be a peacemaker is not just about avoiding conflict but actively fostering and maintaining peace:
Maintainers of Peace: Peacemakers are vigilant in keeping peace intact. They work towards harmony where discord might naturally arise.
Recovery of Peace: When peace is broken, they are the ones who step in to mend relationships, resolve conflicts, and heal wounds.
Children of God
The promise of being called "children of God" connects directly to the Parable of the Lost Son (Luke 15:11–32). This story illustrates unconditional love and the idea of inheritance and belonging.
At his lowest point, the lost son realized the situation he had put himself in by abandoning the blessings granted him when he left his father's estate.
Just as the father welcomed back his wayward son with open arms, God offers us a return to His embrace, regardless of our past mistakes or sins.
Being a peacemaker aligns us with God's nature, making us heirs to His kingdom, not because of our merit but due to His grace.
In Conclusion
To live as a Blessed Peacemaker means to embody the spirit of Christ in daily life. It involves cultivating a heart that seeks peace, not just for oneself but for all, reflecting the love and grace of God. In this role, we not only find our own spiritual fulfillment but also contribute to the healing of the world around us. Through this, we truly become children of God, living in the joy, peace, and security that come from being in His divine favor.
Next Steps
What are some ways you have been blessed in your life?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, guide me as I work to become a maker and maintainer of peace, reflecting Your divine calm and joy. Teach me to be spiritually prosperous, devoid of arrogance, and filled with the grace to forgive as You forgive. Let my actions and words be those that mend the broken, heal the wounded, and unite the divided. May my life be a testament to Your love, so that through my peacemaking, I may be recognized as Your child.
In Jesus name, Amen
